relationships with clients, and is always there 100 percent of
Pohlman has seen the industry change. She notes that in
years past, construction companies were more specialized,
while nowadays they have become more diversified. New
technologies and foundation systems have come into practice
creating demands for new products. The new challenges and
opportunities are an exciting development. At DCI for
example, there is a growing awareness that there are new
opportunities in the power side of the industry. She looks
forward to developing this side of the business.
Having Fun
Enjoying the family's babies
meetings, she would often find herself to be the only woman in
the room. To her that was an advantage as she puts it, she
surely " stood out. "
When it comes to opportunities for women in the industry
Pohlman feels that being a woman doesn't create special
significant challenges or opportunities. She strongly believes
that what it takes to succeed is working hard and knowing
your audience. This is the most valuable thing that one can do.
As she puts it, " My biggest piece of advice to a woman heading
into a sales career is to make sure that you know your product,
and if you do not, don't try to bluff your way. Don't be afraid to
ask questions. If you don't have the answers let your customer
know that, and that you will find an answer for them. In the
process you will learn as well, and customers will appreciate
and respect you for your honesty. "
Throughout her career everyone who has ever met
Pohlman, be they customers, colleagues or co-workers, all
offer the most praiseworthy comments about her energy,
sincerity, excellent work ethic and sense of humor. All hold in
her the highest regard. An example of how she is regarded in
the deep foundations industry, DCI Area Manager and
colleague Trip Story captures it all when he says, " To put it
simply, Mary is a huge asset to any company she works for.
She is a go-getter with incredible integrity. She is also a great
friend who I admire and respect a great deal. She is very
willing to share her knowledge and will go to the ends of the
earth to get a customer what they need. "
These sentiments are shared by REV Drill Vice President
of Sales Jill Kennedy who says that, " Not only is Mary an
expert in tooling and equipment, but she also builds

While Pohlman finds her work and the people she meets to be
fun in and of itself, she also takes great pleasure in spending
time kayaking with friends and family. She can often be found
navigating the rivers of northwest Iowa. She particularly
enjoys her extended family with new " babies " coming along.
And as she emphatically tells us, " Don't forget college
football! " She's a big fan. And anyone who knows Pohlman is a
big fan of hers as well.
