The cast-in-place concrete frame and envelope provide an enduring structure, while a deep canopy covering the plaza and a monumental concreteand-glass stairwell create a dramatic entry where scientists can interact. The technically challenging, LEED® Goldcertified building features an added-shell fifth floor with northern exposures and expansive views. The university received extraordinary value on the project, which was delivered two months early. Industrial/Process/Research Facilities Honor Award sIeMeNs u.s. NAcelle fAcIlIty hutchINsoN, kAN. Owner: Siemens Energy, Inc. Design-Builder, Architect and Engineer: Gray Construction Specialty Contractors: Amteck of Kentucky, P1 Group, Inc. and Shambaugh & Son, L.P. Siemens selected Gray Construction to design and build its 289,842-square-foot nacelle production facility in Hutchinson, Kan. The complex manufacturing plant is designed to carry heavy loads to allow the movement of 90-ton nacelles throughout the building. Teqton, a jointless, maintenance-free floor slab, was installed in the facility, the first of its kind in the United States.
