Keynote: An Interview with Gus
Kenworthy

Beyond his athletic prowess,
Gus Kenworthy has become a
symbol of hope and acceptance,
transcending boundaries, overcoming obstacles, and proving
to be a one-of-a-kind icon. He
picked up his first sponsor at the
age of 16, and, at 27, he continues to push the sport and establish new boundaries. Kenworthy
represented the U.S. in the 2014
Olympic Games in Russia, proudly bringing home the silver medal

in slopestyle. In 2015, Kenworthy
made the bold and courageous
decision to come out as gay. He
then went on to make history as
one of only two openly gay men
to compete for the U.S. at the
Winter Olympics in South Korea
in 2018. Prior to his qualifying run
for slopestyle, he kissed his boyfriend on camera, immortalizing it
as the " kiss seen round the world, "
an iconic moment for the global
LGBTQ and sport communities
alike. No stranger to activism, he
announced in 2019 that he would
be participating in the AIDS/
LifeCycle ride, a 545-mile bike
ride from San Francisco to Los
Angeles, pledging to raise $1 million. He also works with the Trevor
Project in an effort to prevent suicide in LGBTQ youth, along with
the Happy Hippie Foundation aiding homeless and LGBTQ kids.
