Greetings from the "Last Frontier"!
Winter is in full swing with plenty
of good skiing to be had. The
mid-winter American Association
of Orthodontists meeting in Austin was a nice
break from the cold, despite the very brief snowstorm that uncharacteristically passed through
that part of Texas. We are excited for our state
meeting on March 27 in Anchorage, featuring Dr.
Christian Kenworthy. Dr. Kenworthy will present
on how to quarterback an orthodontic practice
from a digital game plan. Our business meeting
will be held immediately afterward.

Alberta
We are excited to report that the
Alberta Society of Orthodontists
Annual Meeting for 2020, set
for March 13-14 at the Fairmont
Banff Springs in Banff, Alberta, is sold out. We
are looking forward to lectures from Dr. Angela
Mulrooney, Dr. Terry Sellke, Dr. Willy Dayan, Laura
Cafik-Martin, Dr. Anil Idiculla, and Ken Goldstein.
The Annual General Meeting will take place on
March 13 with expected updates from the Alberta
PCSO and CAO representatives. The theme for the
event is "Guardians of the Profession."

Arizona
The Arizona State Orthodontic Association (ASOA) annual
meeting was held on December 7,
2020. Dr. Neal Kravitz accepted our

invitation and spoke on some exciting topics. We
are looking into new venue options for this year.
We will announce details once a final decision
has been reached. In December 2019, the Arizona
School of Dentistry & Oral Health graduated five
new orthodontic specialists. Two of the new graduates plan to practice in the Phoenix area, while
the others plan on practicing in Washington State,
New Mexico, and Indonesia.
The Arizona Orthodontic Study Group (AOSG)
kicked off 2020 with extremely informative
sessions. In January, Dr. Rooz Khosravi discussed
"Digital Orthodontics," detailing workflow to
diagnose, treatment plan, and fabricate in office
same-day clear aligners for patients. The AOSG
February meeting covered "Ethics and Jurisprudence," courtesy of Susan Mclellan, which
fulfilled a mandatory Arizona triennial licensure
requirement. The 2020 schedule and membership requirements can be accessed online (www.

member or have not attended an AOSG meeting
lately, we welcome you to join us for a meeting,
catch up with colleagues, and earn some continuing education credits.

British Columbia
The British Columbia Society of
Orthodontists had its first meeting
of the 2019-2020 year on November 4, 2019, in Vancouver. We had
more than 25 members at the meeting and more
than 75 members registered in British Columbia
(BC). One thing that was discussed at the meeting
was the current shortage of certified dental assistants (CDAs). In BC, orthodontic assistants need to
be a CDA with an additional orthodontic training
module. Right now, all of BC is facing a staffing
shortage, which has led to aggressive hiring processes and increased salary requests from staff.
The other topic was the change in the specialty
licensure exam that is taking place this year.
