Schopp described a freshwater system
for well completions Antero has dubbed
its Clearwater project. Phase one is a
$500 million investment in freshwater
withdrawal and pipeline facilities capable
of delivering water for all of Antero's
Utica and Marcellus completions at the

"In 2014, we took 400,000 truck trips
off West Virginia and Ohio roads," he reported. "In 2015 it was 325,000 water
truck trips."
Phase two of the project, Schopp said,
is constructing a produced water treatment
facility in Doddridge County, W.V. He
said that $300 million investment would
generate discharge-quality water that
would be reused in Antero's well completions, along with salt and sludge that
will be landfilled. When operating at its
full 60,000 bbl/d capacity, the treatment
facility will eliminate 10 million truck
miles a year, Schopp said, adding that in
light of the public's distrust of injection
wells, "We believe this is the way of the
future."
