gross) wells targeting the Woodford and
20 net (29 gross) wells targeting the
Springer. For 2016, the company plans
to drill 113 gross wells between the
SCOOP Woodford and SCOOP Springer
plays.
"The SCOOP is more of a condensate
play, although there is an oil window
moving to the east," Stark relates.
Continental has 440,000 net acres in
the SCOOP Woodford, which includes
214,000 acres that are prospective to the
SCOOP Springer as well, according to
Stark.
"The SCOOP Springer evolved because
our team recognized a zone of interest
on the way down to the Woodford," he
explains. "We did an analysis and determined it was definitely a resource."
The company drilled its first SCOOP
Springer well, the Wilkerson, in 2013
and then monitored its performance and
solidified its position before announcing
the addition of the Springer zone to the
play in September 2014.
Continental participated in completing
two nonoperated wells targeting the

Springer formation in the fourth quarter
of last year. The first well flowed 2,100
boe/d (88 percent oil) and the second
flowed 1,007 boe/d (89 percent oil).
In all of its Oklahoma plays, Continental ended 2015 with approximately
35 gross operated wells that were drilled
and uncompleted (DUC), Stark reports.
It plans to end 2016 with approximately
50 gross operated DUCs, which may include wells that are drilled and completed,
but not yet producing to sales.
"We have a lot of oil in the bank to
harvest," emphasizes Stark, who says the
DUCs will be brought on line once oil
and gas prices start to recover.
Tremendous Growth Profile
Newfield Exploration was one of the
pioneers and a leader in developing
STACK, according to Senior Vice President of Operations John Jasek.
"We had an idea," he recalls. "We
saw a downturn in natural gas prices
coming several years ago, and we knew
we needed to be more oil focused and
balance our portfolio with more liquids."

So Newfield put together a play in the
updip portion of the Cana Woodford, he
says.
"It was good geology," Jasek explains.
"The STACK is a very thick, hydrocarbon-saturated system with about 700 feet
of prospective intervals. We have successfully tested the Woodford, and the
Upper and Lower Meramec. There are
additional intervals such as the Osage
and Hunton to test in the future."
Newfield has 315,000 net acres in the
Anadarko Basin, including the SCOOP,
new Springer Shale fairway, and STACK.
Newfield has drilled more than 120 wells
each in the STACK and SCOOP.
"In 2011, we had 5,000 bbl/d net production in the Anadarko Basin," Jasek
offers. "We ended fourth quarter 2015
with more than 75,000 boe/d net production. That is a tremendous growth profile.
The Anadarko Basin (SCOOP and
STACK) represents more than half of the
company's proved reserves and daily production. It has been very consistent, and
has matched our predrill model."
Newfield plans to drill 80 wells this
