COGA Taps Dan Haley
As New President, CEO

DENVER-The Colorado Oil & Gas
Association has hired Dan Haley as its
new president and chief executive
officer.
Most recently, Haley served as vice
president of communications,
development and strategy for EIS
Solutions. "I am honored to represent
this industry, which has been a rich part
of our Colorado heritage and is an
important part of our future," he relates.
"This is a challenging time for the
industry, which makes it more
important than ever that we engage
fully with impacted communities to find
common ground, while also working to
protect all the benefits the industry
brings to our state and country. I am
excited to promote such a vibrant,
innovative and critical industry, and its
incredible employees."
According to COGA, Haley spent
more than 20 years in daily journalism,
working for newspapers across the
West, including 13 years at The Denver
Post, where he served as editorial page
editor. Before joining EIS Solutions,
where he also worked as a consultant to
COGA, Haley was director of corporate
communications for Denver-based
CoBank.
Haley succeeds Tisha Schuller, who
was to depart COGA at the end of May
after five years at COGA's helm. "It is
hard to pass the baton for leading an
organization that I care so much about,
but Dan is the right person for the job,"
Schuller says. "He has the strategic vision,
grace under pressure, and willingness to
adapt that this job requires."
According to COGA Chairman Alan
Harrison, Haley has established strong
connections and meaningful credibility
with a broad range of Colorado
stakeholders. "He has proven that he
can engage in controversy with patience
and integrity, moving toward

Oil, Gas Assets Pay Off
With Robust Returns
For State Pension Plans

WASHINGTON-Returns from
investing in oil and natural gas
companies by state pension funds
continue to provide strong earnings for
public pension retirees, a study
commissioned by the American
Petroleum Institute finds.
The Financial Contribution of Oil
and Natural Gas Investments to Public
Employee Pension Plans in 17 States,
Fiscal Years 2005-2013, published by
economic advisory firm Sonecon,
examines the financial impact of oil and
gas investments on the performance of
the two largest public employee pension
funds and the overall retirement systems
in 17 states.
"During good economic times-or
challenging ones-oil and natural gas
investments far outperformed other
public pension holdings," says API
Vice President of Regulatory and
Economic Policy Kyle Isakower. "We
already know that a healthy domestic
oil and natural gas industry is good
news for jobs and government revenue,
and we now know that it also provides
stability to the nest eggs that millions of
Americans are counting on for a secure
retirement."
According to the report, investments
in oil and natural gas stocks
significantly outperformed other assets
held by those funds. The study says
while oil and natural gas stocks
comprised, on average, 4 percent of the
holdings in those pension funds, they
accounted for 8 percent of the returns
from 2005 to 2013.
API points out the owners of
domestic oil and gas companies largely
are retirees and middle-class Americans
saving for retirement.
"Millions of Americans with a 401k,
mutual fund or pension also rely on the
income and capital growth these
companies provide for their retirement,"
Isakower says.
The report says the 17 state pension
systems it studied account for nearly 55
