from reaching the float valves.
AirLock system combines lateral buoyancy
with vertical fluid weight to get casing to depth
in difficult wells and formations.
100% success record
The AirLockTM casing-buoyancy system helps land
casing in horizontal wells, at low cost and without
interrupting casing and cementing operations. The
vertical casing section is filled with fluid, while the
lateral section remains air-filled and buoyant. The
enhanced buoyancy reduces sliding friction more
than 50%, while the weight of the vertical section
provides additional force to push the string all the
way to the toe of the well. The simple and passive
AirLock system consists of only two components:
1) a seal collar installed in the casing string above
the lateral section and 2) a debris-trap installed
in a casing connection above the float shoe. The
seal collar locks air in the lateral section while the
vertical section is filled with fluid. After the string
lands, surface pressure is increased to fragment
the dome-shaped seal, leaving a full-drift wellbore.
Seal fragments are collected by the debris trap
and hole-conditioning and cementing operations
proceed as usual.
AirLock systems have landed liners and casing
in hundreds of wells, including extended laterals
in difficult, abrasive formations, and the string has
landed successfully every time.
