To Halve Safety Incidents

NORMAN, OK.-In 2014, after three
years of significant changes to create a
safer workplace, Cimarron Energy
achieved its first total recordable incident
rate below the preliminary national average
for its industry. The company, which
manufactures production and processing
equipment, reports it reduced safety incidents by 66 percent compared with 2013.
"This achievement represents a diligent
effort across the company to improve
safety," says Cimarron President Larry
Holdge. "It could not have been accomplished without our outstanding people,
who were intent to learn and improve,
and the leadership of Brenda Truman,
our senior manager of health, safety, and
environment."
Cimarron says its facilities in Oklahoma
and Colorado achieved the safety record
with site safety committees, incident investigation and audit groups that involved
all levels of the organization. The company
adds it has implemented detailed risk assessments, personal protection equipment
for all workers, fall arrest programs, safer
manufacturing processes, and periodic
training for all employees.

NRG Selects Delta Tower To Cool Hot Drilling Mud
ROXBURY TOWNSHIP, N.J.-NRG
Manufacturing is using a cooling tower
from Delta Cooling Towers Inc. as part
of a mud tank commissioned by a major
service company to develop and test
downhole drilling tools.
Most NRG mud systems are portable
systems for removing destructive solids
and sediment from drilling mud, which
improves fluid retention and safety, extends
equipment life, and simplifies clean-out
maintenance, Delta reports. However, the
company says the new mud system needs
to accommodate a particularly abrasive
mud and run it through the tools for
erosion testing and other wear factors.
"Because drilling fluids are very abrasive,
heat can build quickly and controlling mud

temperature becomes an issue," observes
Chris Post, NRG's director of engineering
and projects for pressure vessels and drilling
systems. "So our customer asked us to incorporate a cooling system that would
reduce and control the heat levels."
The system includes a compact, 265ton cooling tower from Delta. The tower
was selected for its economic price and
high-density polyethylene construction,
Delta says, adding that the seamless, factory-assembled tower offers dependable
performance and minimal maintenance
requirements.
