my fitness lifestyle so decided to turn my
hobby into a career. I started a three-year
sports science degree and soon found a
role as a Fitness Coach.'
Kerry worked her way up through the
ranks in the fitness industry from Fitness
Coach and Personal Trainer to Team Leader
and Operations Manager. Then, after
moving to a larger fitness operator with
room to grow into senior management
roles, she realised that to become
General Manager she needed to learn the
commercial arm of the business.
'A Sales Manager opportunity arose
for me,' she says. 'This was a challenging
role but after two years I was promoted
to the General Manager's role, soon
becoming responsible for five fitness
clubs. Unfortunately the brand sold half
its portfolio and my role was put up for
redundancy. After a successful 12 years, I
thought it was time for a new challenge.'

'I knew this was for me'
The challenge came when an opportunity
for Centre Manager came around with The
Original Bowling Company - and she's
never looked back.
'I knew little about the company,'
says Kerry, 'but after researching and
interviewing for the role, I felt an
excitement inside that I hadn't felt since
I first walked into the fitness industry years
before. I knew this was the role for me.
'I was given Centre Manager responsibility
at Hollywood Bowl Leeds, one of the

biggest centres with so much potential. I
spent four weeks on the job training with
four very experienced centre managers,
then a week in my centre with my mentor.
The best start anyone could hope for.
'Running a bowling centre is fantastic;
every day is very different. I soon realised
there are many levers to pull in what is a
very complex business. I needed more
than the skills, experience and motivational
energy I had, so I went about seeking them
from the leaders in our business.
'Nothing is too much trouble for TOBC.
The company encourages fresh ideas
and invests time into developing you to
become an exceptional leader. Exciting
opportunities always come up - so as
long as I want to achieve, the company will
encourage my growth.
'Leeds has just undergone a £500,000
refurbishment and looks amazing. I work in
a fun-filled, exciting, challenging, rewarding

environment. It was the best career move
I have made. My goal is to make my
Leeds centre the best in the country. Every
day I come to work, I am excited about
how I can make a difference to my team's
performance and how I can create the
best experience possible for every person
who walks through the doors.'

'Record breakers'
Regional Director for the north, Darryl
Lewis, adds: 'After an extensive training
and induction programme, Kerry has
made an immediate impact into the
business. She has been able to build a
team full of infectious enthusiasm for
sales and service superiority.
'Leading her team from the floor,
Kerry has significantly impacted service
levels with increases in our service
metrics by surprising and delighting our
customers. A service focused team
has also impacted revenue with recordbreaking revenue in recent months.'
