THRIVE IN THE NEW ERA OF DATA PRIVACY
The approach to the security of data is one of the most significant issues facing governments, corporate entities and individuals. Current circumstances indicate
that most organizations will suffer a data breach - whether that's an external attack or an inside job, if steps are not taken to educate employees of the dangers.
On May 25, 2018, the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) came into force in all European Union States, although it has ramifications which are even
wider. It is the first attempt at a unified law to govern the collection, control and processing of personal data. GDPR impacts every company who stores or captures personal data of European guests, regardless of the location of property or business.
Noncompliance could lead to fines of up to 20 million Euros or 4% of global annual turnover for the preceding financial year, whichever is the greater, being levied by data watchdogs. These new regulations will affect each of your guests who are based in Europe, are multinational corporations doing business in Europe
or have business dealing with European citizens who use their services. This is because the GDPR brings the same obligations on data processors as well as the
data controller. Already, Russia, China, Thailand and even the State of California have also announced their intention to follow with regulations of their own that
follow some or all of the GDPR. Our session examines the data privacy issues affecting the hospitality sector and what steps can be taken to manage current
requirements or requirements that will be coming as more multinational corporations implement GDPR.
