Because the quarters needed to be
light, Guitarrez says the company employed its patented aluminum technology, which weighs half as much as
traditional steel buildings.
In other news, the company says it
has provided an 11-building aluminum
package and a helideck for a fixed platform in the Gulf of Mexico. The package includes four 10-man sleepers,
three 12-man sleepers, an office/sleeper,
a recreation room, a laundry room/office, and a diner.

New Bit Drills Frac Plugs With Exceptional Speed
CARROLLTON, TX.-For drilling out
fracture plugs quickly and efficiently, Varel
International reports it has introduced SlipStreamTM RC Pro roller cone drill bits.

to the specific challenges of frac plug
drilling that will deliver enhanced performance and value to our customers."
The bit incorporates a hybrid cutting
structure matched specifically to the distribution of high hardness, high abrasion,

and elastic or plastic materials found in
frac plugs, Varel says. Specifically, it
combines an outer cutting structure featuring patented HETTM tungsten carbide
inserts with a tightly spaced inner cutting
structure with DuraCladTM mill tooth
technology, the company details.
In field tests, the combined cutting
structure has drilled plugs as much as 70
percent faster than typical all-mill-tooth or
all-insert-cutting structures, Varel reports.

Weir, MTU To Collaborate On Integrated Frac System
HOUSTON-Weir Oil & Gas and MTU
announce they have signed an agreement
to develop power systems specifically
engineered for hydraulic fracturing.
The companies describe Weir as the
leading manufacturer of hydraulic fracturing pumps, and MTU, a Rolls-Royce
Power Systems company, as a market
leader in heavy-duty industrial engines.
They say they will work together to
address the market need for more reliable
and continuous-duty equipment.
"Our teams are working to develop
fully integrated, purpose-built power sys-

tems for fracturing," says Steve Noon,
Weir Oil & Gas's divisional managing
director. "This innovative approach will
introduce a complete package, with all
components built specifically for fracturing
applications, integrated and optimized to
work together (to provide) longer run
times and greater efficiencies."
The fully integrated power system
should be available in mid-2015, the
companies report. They indicate it will
use smart controls to provide condition
monitoring and optimize performance.

Vallourec Takes First Place

Schramm Offers Small Rig
For Spudding Shale Wells
WEST CHESTER, PA.-Schramm Inc.
has added the T250XD to its Telemast®
line of trailer-mounted drilling rigs for
shale drilling.
"We designed the T250XD to help
operators cut costs by utilizing a smaller,
more mobile and cost-effective rig for
top-hole drilling, decreasing the time and
money otherwise spent on larger, more
expensive rigs designed for deeper and
directional drilling," says Schramm Chief
Executive Officer Ed Breiner.
The T250XD builds on the success of
Schramm's Telemast line for deeper
drilling, the company says, with features
such as increased top drive travel, added
blowout preventer clearance, an operator's
control room, and the ability to interface
with remote operating centers around the
globe by satellite or the Internet. The rig
provides 250,000 pounds of hook loading
and comes with Schramm's LoadSafe
XD fully-automated, hands-free pipe handling system, the company reports. It
says these features will help operators
improve worker safety and limit road
wear while reducing operating costs.
