real weddings Caitlin & Bronte Herrera October 5, 2007 By Darren elms • Photography by Jodi Yorston Photography W hen Caitlin Carroll needed to narrow down a date for her upcoming wedding to fiancé Bronte, she went straight to the Farmers almanac. Having her heart set on an outdoor wedding, she knew there was one visitor certainly not welcome at her ceremony: rain. as luck would have it, October 5th hadn’t seen a drop of rain in the past nine to 10 years. in fact, the almanac predicted sunny skies and low 70s…perfect! so as the rain started to pour down a few hours before the ceremony, Caitlin couldn’t help but scratch her head through her perfectly coiffed hairdo. “People say it’s good luck when it rains on your wedding day, but i could care less about good luck,” she now laughs. “i think it was a reminder that you can’t be in control of everything, especially on your wedding day.” deciding to just go with the flow, she put on a brave face and geared up for her big vows. sure enough, about an hour before they began, the skies magically cleared to beautiful sunny weather. “all i know is my prayers worked!” she says. Other than pending weather worries, Caitlin notes she wasn’t very nervous all. “i was afraid there was something wrong, like ‘am i marrying the wrong guy?’” she says. any doubt disappeared the moment she saw her future husband at the end of the aisle. “He looked so handsome,” she beams. The bridal party entered to a harpist rendition of Metallica, which was “very Bronte and i,” she notes. Though originally against the idea of a harpist, she quickly changed her mind when she found out the musician, harpist Pamela Pamperin, could do rock ‘n roll covers. it provided just enough edge to what was otherwise a very elegant and gorgeous ceremony at david girard Vineyards. Caitlin says, “i always wanted my Runaway Bride wedding with the beautiful hill, tall trees and sun setting…and i got it!” Both Caitlin and Bronte made sure to include family in the festivities as much as possible, even those who had already passed on. she tied lockets with images of both their grandparents in each of their mothers’ corsages. Caitlin also attached to her bouquet one grandmother’s ring and wore another’s necklace, one worn at many other special events in the past. Both Cailin’s parents received special dances with their daughter, mom to a sting song and dad to his favorite, Bruce springsteen. For her autumn wedding, Caitlin went with seasonal colors that looked stunning in unison: cranberry red, burnt orange and chocolate brown.
