After three days of touring Venice with the ring hiding in his pocket, Alan got down on one knee at a café in St. Marc’s Square. Alan thought everything out impeccably. even the ring encompassed the details of their courtship. The setting’s “C” cutout is for their last name, and the two-carat ring symbolizes Suzan waiting “2, oh 2 long.” When planning for their special day, Suzan felt completely at ease because Alan, a graphic designer, was able to execute anything Suzan could dream up. “I wanted this wedding to be about Suzan because it was finally her turn,” Alan said. Suzan enlisted her cousin, a botanical artist, to arrange all the flowers, only giving her a color palette to work with: blue and white. The couple had a very traditional ceremony with a full Catholic Mass, and went the route of not seeing each other until the walk down the aisle. Unfortunately, the Philippine government wasn’t able to approve Suzan’s father’s visa in order for him to see his little girl get mar- ried. She was heartbroken. But Suzan chose to make her way down the aisle on the arm of her brother. during the lavish reception, the bride was surprised with a phone call from her doting dad, and in the back of the room, candles illuminated framed pictures of their loved ones who had passed on, serving as a way for them to be there and be remembered. during cocktail hour, guests were encouraged to take pictures of themselves in a photo booth and were both given a copy to take home, and a copy to leave in the couple’s modern guestbook. After a photo-montage of the couple, the guests moved on to a club scene interior, complete with blue lit monogrammed initials projected onto the dance floor, followed by a sit-down dinner where guests had a choice between Chilean sea bass or fork tender shortrib. In planning the food, the couple gathered all the menus from their favorite restaurants and listed their comfort food faves. And, as if Alan hadn’t already shamed men enough, he also designed their three-tier cake after the style of the engagement ring. For a wedding that was 14 years in the making, as Suzan says, the event marked the celebration of the couple’s years together and the many more to come.
