There were also serious moments. Matt’s brother, along with one of Matt’s closest friends, performed a song called “Beautiful” that had been composed just for this event. Matt and Danielle also took communion together as a testament to how God has inspired their lives and how together they are living for Him. They also chose to light a unity candle; not just as symbol of their own union, but also as a symbol of how two families were now coming together as one. “The wedding was a perfect blend of serious, romantic and fun; it was a great reflection of who Matt and I are as people,” Danielle says. Their reception would be best described as the crowd warm up to a Kings game, complete with loud music, special lighting and a DJ hired specifically because he could get the crowd revved up and involved. At the couple’s request, the DJ introduced the members of the bridal party and screamed “Mortal Combat!” parodying the theme song to the movie of the same name, and giving extra life to a joke that Matt, Danielle and their friends had enjoyed for years. Later Danielle, an only child, danced with her father to the music of “I Loved Her First,” by Heartland. Her first dance with her husband was to ”My Best Friend,” by Tim McGraw. “That’s what we really are, best friends,” Danielle says.
