MATERIAL FOR
SWIMWEAR?

'Nylon/elastane is the most common
swimwear fabric. However, with
regular wear, chlorine causes the
elastane to weaken and it will
discolour from exposure to light.
'It is best to buy an active swimsuit
if you are a regular swimmer - some
of those made by Speedo and Zoggs,
for example, are chlorine-resistant
with a very low elastane content.
Shaping swimsuits have high elastane
content as this is what gives the
stretch and control.' SW

Lorraine Kelly, wowed fans
last year when she appeared
on live television in a bikini,
looking absolutely fabulous.
The brave move, which
saw her dance with a group
of other ladies on the
banks of the River Thames,
was to mark the end of her
popular health plan, the Bikini Promise. Lorraine
achieved her ﬂawless physique with the help of
qualiﬁed ﬁtness instructor and her zumba teacher
Maxine Jones, and at 56, Lorraine feels better than
she ever did in her 20s and 30s.
She has encouraged many women to get ﬁt and
be happy in their own skin, and continues inspiring
others to become body conﬁdent through the Bikini
Promise, now with the added 'plus one'. She explains:
'It's all about feeling healthy, ﬁt and happy. This year,
we want you to get your "plus one" involved as well.
It could be your partner, relative or best friend.'
With nutritionist Sally Bee, ﬁtness instructor
Maxine and ITV's Dr Hilary Jones, Lorraine has
been guiding viewers on their health journey over
a period of six weeks - and it's not too late to join

Lorraine says: 'I never thought I would feel
conﬁdent enough to wear a bikini on national TV,
but if I can do it, then so can you.'

WAY TO WASH
YOUR BIKINI?

'Hand wash all underwired styles
as machine washing can shrink the
fabric, misshape the wires and cause
them to push through the material.
'You can prolong the life of your
swimwear, and help protect it against
the damaging eﬀects of chlorine,
perspiration and suntan lotion,
by rinsing it out in cool water
immediately after you have used it.
It's best to avoid using fabric conditioner,
as this breaks down Lycra and also
degrades swimwear.' LG

A GOOD OPTION,
AND HOW CAN YOU

STAY IN SHAPE?
'A padded cup can be a great choice
as it gives a smooth silhouette,
just like a T-shirt bra. Many swimsuits
or bikini tops have the versatility of
removable pads, so you wear them with
or without; some have hidden support
to help create a great shape.' SJ

'If you have a larger bust it's deﬁnitely
worth investing in your swimwear to
ensure you get the best ﬁt and support
for your bust. Don't ever compromise
on ﬁt. There is still a mix-and-match
trend coming through, which is a
great way to save money if you love a
bikini - spend more on the top and
then buy diﬀerent bottoms to change
your look on holiday.' SW
