Visiting all the boutiques and trying
on every design going is all part of
the fun of ﬁnding The One. Even if
you're completely against a huge
meringue, try one on. It's something
you'll never get to do again, so
make the most of it.
And, while you might have a style
in mind (short, lace, satin, ivory,
pink), it's good to eliminate others
to be sure. Once you ﬁnd it, you'll
know. Just don't expect tears from
mum - that's a myth!

ETIQUETTE
Far from us to say
what's right and what
isn't - it's completely
up to you. Couples
tend to do whatever
they like when it
comes to table
etiquette, when to
say speeches (and
who says them - it's
not unusual for brides
to get in on the act),
who sits where, who
pays for what, when
the cake gets cut
and writing the vows.
For a lot of people,
tradition goes out of
the window. It's your
day, and whatever you
want - whenever
you want it - goes.

FLOWERS
A huge part of a wedding day, ﬂowers
traditionally appear in your bouquet, in
your bridesmaids' poses, your groomsmen's
buttonholes, to decorate your venue and as
centrepieces on your reception tables.
Roses ooze romance and tend to be the
bloom of choice, followed by tulips which
represent 'consuming love', and then calla lilies.
Changes are afoot, and now some brides are
choosing paper ﬂorals for their bouquets!

HONEYMOON

Ahh, possibly the trickiest task
you'll complete ahead of your
big day - who to invite? From
long-lost cousins who you
never see, to your mum's
best friend's sister 'who'd
love to see you get married',
and all those hangers-on in
between, when numbers are
tight, it can be a nightmare.
A good rule of thumb is
select relatives who you've seen
at least once in the past year
and friends a little more often
- everyone else isn't so close to you.

This is the one thing your
hubby-to-be will
deﬁnitely want a
say on - so get
him to organise
it. Holiday
companies
will be falling
over themselves
at wedding fairs to get you
to book a fabulous fortnight
in the Maldives, or an idyllic
10 days in the Bahamas, but
it's all down to what you can
afford. Some couples opt
for mini moons until they're
ﬁnancially back on their feet.
But this is a once-in-a-lifetime
blow out holiday, so indulge!

INSURANCE
Something that often gets overlooked,
insurance could turn a disaster, such as
your catering company going bust
before the big day, into a situation that
can be rectiﬁed. Bad weather, illness
or death can result in you losing a great
deal of money - some hotels won't
return any money, especially the (large)
deposit. Even beyond your wedding day,
rings and other jewellery can get lost,
damaged or stolen, so having insurance
in place can give you peace of mind.

JEWELLERY

You have your engagement ring sparkling on your
ﬁnger, but now for the main event - your wedding
band. The jury's still out on which ﬁnger to wear it on
ahead of the ceremony - some brides give it to their mother or
best friend to put on, others wear it on their right hand until it's
time to party. Whether your husband even decides to wear one
is up to him. Prince William doesn't wear a ring, due to 'personal
preference', and neither does David Cameron.
Some brides wear special, signiﬁcant jewellery on their big
day, while others choose pieces to complement their dress.
